Mendeley is a bibliography manager and research support tool. It’s particularly popular among students, doctoral candidates and researchers preparing theses, scientific articles and literature reviews. The tool allows you to work individually and collaboratively: create groups, share publications and share research materials with other users. A free Mendeley personal account offers 2 GB of storage space for your own materials. You can create 5 private groups inviting up to 25 members to each group and share full text articles (PDFs) with them and take notes together.

Web Importer – is a browser extension that allows you to instantly save scientific publications, books, and websites directly to your Mendeley Reference Manager library, without entering data manually.

Mendeley Cite – allows you to cite, change style, easily insert footnotes in the text and automatically generate bibliographies without leaving the program.


Zotero – is a free bibliography manager that works as a researcher’s personal assistant. It automatically collects, organizes, and formats scientific literature, making it easier to write papers, insert footnotes, and generate bibliographies in programs like MS Word or Google Docs. To take full advantage of Zotero, you’ll need the latest version of your chosen web browser (Firefox or Chrome) and MS Word downloaded to your computer.

Zotero Connector – allows you to instantly save research sources, pages and files with one click.


EndNote  – is an advanced bibliography manager from Web of Science that automates the process of collecting scientific materials, formatting footnotes, and creating bibliographies. It’s used to work with literature, facilitating publication writing and research collaboration. EndNote Basic is a reference management system available online only. The free online version is limited to 50,000 records and 2 GB of file storage.

Cite While You Write – allows automatic insertion of footnotes in the text of a Microsoft Word document and automatic formatting of the bibliography according to the selected style (e.g. APA, IEEE, Harvard).

EndNote Click – makes it easy to import full-text PDF files into EndNote with a single click. It allows you to automate the process of searching, downloading, and managing full-text scientific articles (PDFs).
