Registration in the PPM-WMU Database
In accordance with the Ordinance (§ 2(1)(1)), students are required to report their publications on an ongoing basis to the Main Library of WMU. These include: scientific articles published in journals and peer-reviewed conference proceedings, scientific monographs, and chapters in scientific monographs, for registration in the Polish Medical Platform of Wroclaw Medical University (PPM-WMU).
Notifications should be sent to the Bibliography and Bibliometrics Department of the Main Library of WMU at bibliografia@umw.edu.pl, providing the publication details, the submitter’s full name, and their year of study, faculty, and field of study.
Only publications whose publishing process has been completed are registered in PPM-WMU. This means that the publication must have appeared in its final version as issued by the publisher, with complete bibliographic information (assigned to a specific journal volume/issue and containing the final article or page numbering). For more information on the registration rules in the PPM-WMU database, please refer to the relevant guidelines.
Affiliation
In publications, authors should indicate Wroclaw Medical University as the institution where the scientific research or research and development activities were conducted (i.e., affiliation). It is important to ensure that the University’s name is provided correctly:
In addition, the affiliation should specify that the author is a student of the relevant faculty. If the publication was prepared as part of a Student Scientific Association (SKN), the name of the association should also be included as a second affiliation.
A correct and complete affiliation ensures proper indexing and retrieval of publications in international databases, which contributes to increasing the citation rate and visibility of WMU scientific and research achievements in global rankings.
Avoiding Predatory Publishers
When selecting a publisher, it is important to verify its credibility to avoid becoming a victim of online fraud. Researchers often receive attractive email offers promising rapid publication in journals that advertise high citation metrics.
Such offers may come from fraudsters impersonating prestigious journals by creating fake publisher websites (hijacked journals) and charging publication fees for articles that will never be published.
More commonly, however, they originate from predatory publishers that produce predatory journals – publications with questionable reputations that apply very low peer-review standards, or no peer review at all, and are primarily focused on generating profit.
Publishing in predatory journals is not only a waste of money but also poses a serious risk to a researcher’s reputation and the credibility of their work.
To help researchers avoid such publishers, members of the academic community have established independent initiatives that maintain lists of potentially predatory publishers and journals, such as Beall’s List, Predatory Journals Database.
If you have any doubts regarding the credibility of a journal, please contact the Bibliography and Bibliometrics Department of the WMU Library at bibliografia@umw.edu.pl.
